Dev Log 10 (v0.9.0)


Dev Log 10  - 2023-11-29  to 2023-12-06

This week was our final push before the end of the semester. We had a long list of unfinished features and changes we wanted to implement, so we did just that.

Tasks Completed

  • Implemented train events, have the train now spawn items
  • Fixed the camera so all players are always on screen now
  • Falling off the map changed to losing one hat rather than dying
  • Add a stun for players when they spawn
  • Fixed hat sizing bugs 
  • Stack hats on players head so they move with player animations
  • Hats are now highlighted with player colour to increase visibility on their head and on the ground
  • Player indicator now above all objects to increase visibility 
  • Corrected object position when holding items, preventing collision bugs
  • Implemented special items: explosive barrel, big bomba, boomerang, icicle and arrow!
  • Added particle effects to all special items to differentiate them from normal objects
  • Implemented animations: Idle and running
  • Added train indicator
  • Added new sound effects
  • Added in new music
  • UI timer effects (grow and shrink when reaching last few seconds)
  • Added rewards system like Mario Party
  • Added player icons
  • Fixed spawn points
  • Added text between rounds and won’t automatically start the next round
  • Fixed bug where player indicator disappears after round 1
  • Added special scenes for trailer purposes (intro / moveable camera)
  • Created a Trailer!

Challenges

  • Had an issue with moving the train in the special scene, since the train had many rigid bodies each attached to the trains separate components, the script to move the train kept acting unexpectedly.
  • Fixing all bugs and polishing was tedious
  • Had to revamp the audio manager to include new music sfx
  • Trailer took way longer to edit than expected
